About Schuster's 24-hour Web Machine

The Original Potato Machine

I snapped this photo of the original 24-hour Potato Machine in 1988. We were driving to film a Monster Truck showdown between Chevy's USA1 and Ford's Bigfoot. The original use of this device was an ice block dispenser. Nobody thinks twice about getting ice from a machine—or getting ice 24 hours a day. But potatoes, that's something. There is probably a 24-hour self serve market for just about everything.

Flash forward to 2009. Suddenly every organization (and many individuals) I know want a Web site. And not just a set-it-and-forget-it clump of pages. It's got to be dynamic. Up to date! Maybe with some flash animation too. And easy to update ... most groups want to maintain a calendar and maybe a blog for posting news. And nobody wants to be held hostage by their Web dude, or have to learn "Dreamweaver" when they need to make changes or updates. They want a self-serve Web site site that is good to go at all times—easy for them to update.

That is the mission of the 24 Hour Web Machine. To help you build your community. We do it by using content management system software. Drupal, Joomla, Community Server, Wordpress are all examples of this technology. I happen to favor Drupal, but can work in whatever the client organization needs or prefers. We are dedicated to delivering the all things you did not realize you need, when you need them.

Your sense of humor cracks me up ... and reminds me of great brainstorming sessions in year past.
